U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Tristan Abuyen, a survey team member of the 773rd Weapons of Civil Support Team, 7th Mission Support Command, provides an interview prior to a CBRN demonstration at the Port of Agadir, Morocco, Jun. 9, 2023, as part of African Lion.
“My role was to create and instruct academics of CBRN and weapons of mass destruction response,” said Abuyen. “I also participated as the sampler for our joint sampling team during our CBRN demonstration. My favorite part about working with our FAR partners was their motivation and passion. Now I know how we would integrate if the need for a CBRN or weapons of mass destruction response arose.”
The 773rd is a technical HAZMAT reaction team, the only one of its kind in the U.S. Army Europe - Africa theater. Exercises like African Lion provide a venue to flex U.S. Army Reserve capabilities and demonstrate the integral role the Reserve plays in the success of unilateral military operations across the globe. 18 nations and approximately 8,000 personnel will participate in African Lion 2023, U.S. Africa Command's largest annual combined, joint exercise that will take place in multiple countries to include Morocco from May 13 - June 18, 2023.
