Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility workers prepare for the undocking of the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Hawaii (SSN 776) from Dry Dock 1, Sept. 27, 2023. Each undocking is a complex evolution that requires teamwork across the entire shipyard to ensure a safe and on-time event. This undocking is a major milestone in the submarine’s Depot Modernization Period (DMP), a scheduled mid-life modernization of the Virginia Class Submarine’s major ship’s systems.
