240108-N-CD319-1095 SOUTH CHINA SEA (Jan. 8, 2024) Sailors aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) hold steady a phone-and-distance (P&D) line during a replenishment-at-sea with Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE 8). The P&D line is used to measure distances between ships while transferring logistics and fuel. Lawrence is assigned to Carrier Strike Group 1 and deployed to U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
