Framed photo of the flag Capt. Bob Uhrig flew during each of his missions in WWII. He sent the flag back to his wife with this note, “We think that we are going to have to retire the original ‘Old Glory’ because she is worn almost down to the stripes. She has been with through too many windstorms. We are going to have to put up on of the new ones you sent me. We wanted to make the original last the war out, but the old girl just can’t take it any longer. I will send it home to you and you can exhibit it and let her tell you about all of her experiences. She has seen lots of things happen and also a lot of country,” The artifact includes a hand-written paper with the names of the places where it was flown. The photo is on the back cover of the book, “Invasion Stripes: The Wartime Diary of Capt. Robert Uhrig, USAAF and the Dawn of American Military Airlift,” written by Lt. Col. (retired) Brian Duddy.
