The first Commander for a Day program participant, Ben Meyer, participates in the event Jan. 11, 2024, at Fort McCoy, Wis. He had the opportunity to go through the daily routine of a garrison commander for the day. The program offers a unique perspective, allowing the participant to witness firsthand the dedication of the men and women who serve at Fort McCoy. During his day, Meyer said he "learned how great everybody here is on Fort McCoy, I've always known but coming from nights going to days, you really get to see the passion that everybody has for their jobs over here." Selected applicants for the Commander for a Day Program are those who demonstrate exceptional character, commitment, potential for growth and future leadership capability within the command. The Commander for a Day allows a selected applicant to see first-hand and apply skills necessary to lead a U.S. Army Garrison and experience a typical commander’s day.
