U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Shahram Sean Ahrar, U.S. Navy Reserve Special Operations Command Central human resources officer, left, coaches a student at St. Olaf College, Minnesota. Ahrar fled to America at the age of 16 in response to the Iraq-Iran War. He graduated from Minnesota State University with a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature and continued to become a teacher and coach. At the age of 39, he commissioned as a human resources officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, leveraging his skills as a linguist to connect with refugees during Operation Allies Welcome.
