OKINAWA, Japan (Feb. 05, 2024) Seabees, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4, Airmen, assigned to 18th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES), and Marines, assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 172, bolt together reinforced polymer matting (FRP) in an airfield damage repair exercise, during Keen Edge '24. Keen Edge is an annual bilateral exercise conducted by the United States Forces Japan and the Japanese Self Defense Force. NMCB 4 is forward deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific region to support and maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific. As the stand-in, crisis response, naval engineering force, NMCB 4 maintains a ready posture to deliver in-theater expeditionary logistics via expeditionary shore infrastructure, forward damage repair, and mobile construction.
