Brig. Gen Alric Francis receives the general officer's belt from his daughter on February 21, 2024, during his promotion ceremony at Fort Bliss, Texas. Up through WWI, all officers wore a brown belt with an interlocking eagle plate in garrison. After the war, the belt was not worn. In July 1943, the Army Chief of Staff “expressed a desire” as the original memorandum states, “for a belt to be worn by all general officers when carrying sidearms, except when actually going into combat.” Today, wearing of the belt is at the discretion of each general officer. It is worn with the Army Combat Uniform and seldom to carry a side arm. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Oniel McDonald)
