240229-N-TI567-1140 STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss. -- Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict Christopher Maier receives a familiarization brief of the Special Operations Craft-Riverine on the Pearl River at the John C. Stennis Space Center in South Mississippi, Feb. 29, 2024.
During his visit of U.S. Naval Special Warfare Commands (NSW) located along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Maier toured Special Boat Team 22 (SBT) and the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School (NAVSCIATTS).
SBT 22’s mission is to organize, train, and equip Naval Special Warfare Maritime Troops and Special Operations Maritime Craft Detachments to conduct worldwide special operations in coastal and riverine environments in support of Theater Commanders. The unit is one of three operational boat teams within Naval Special Warfare Group 4 and the only riverine asset within the command.
NAVSCIATTS operates in support of foreign security assistance and geographic combatant commanders’ theater security cooperation priorities. The command trains and educates international security force professionals across the tactical, operational, and strategic spectrums through in-residence and mobile training team courses of instruction. To date, almost 14,000 students from 125 partner nations have trained with the command. (U.S. Navy photo by Angela K. Fry)
