SOUTH CHINA SEA (March 5, 2024)– Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Gavin Sorensen (left), from Peoria, Arizona, assigned to embarked Helicopter Maritime Strike (HSM) Squadron 49 instructs Sailors on proper use of a Life Preserving Unit before a familiarization flight aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Mobile (LCS 26) in the South China Sea, March 5. Crewmembers participate in familiarization flights to become better acquainted with the aircraft they service aboard the ship. Mobile, part of Destroyer Squadron 7, is on a rotational deployment operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
