U.S Marines with the command element, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, pose in front of the USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115) at White Beach Naval Base, Okinawa, Japan, Mar. 17, 2024. The USS Peralta was named in memory of Sgt. Rafael Peralta who earned a Navy Cross for his actions in the second battle of Fallujah while attached to the 31st MEU. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force in ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
