SASEBO, Japan (March 11, 2024) Sailors assigned to the forward-deployed amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18) and firefighters assigned to Commander, Naval Region Japan Fire & Emergency services exit the ship during an 8010 VE drill onboard USS New Orleans March 11. The drill, required by the Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention (8010), was created to train integrated teams of Sailors and firefighters to respond to casualties in industrial environments. New Orleans, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, is forward deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
