U.S. Army Soldiers supporting the 3rd Infantry Division and Italian Soldiers participate in the inauguration memorial dedicated to the Rock of the Marne in Mignano Montelungo, Italy, March 26, 2024. The 3rd ID Soldiers of the 7th, 15th, and 30th regiments fought in 1943 at the Mignano Gap in the attempt to open the way to Rome to liberate the city from Nazi Fascism. The memorial commemorates the division’s point of maximum advance during the battle and honors those who made the ultimate sacrifices to eradicate tyranny. The 3rd Infantry Division’s mission in Europe is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, working alongside NATO Allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces to V Corps, America’s forward-deployed corps in Europe.
