In recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day (March 29), the last day combat troops departed Vietnam, people gathered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall to honor those who served. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration conducted a wreath-laying ceremony, featuring eight different wreaths: Six wreaths for the different branches of service, one for the National Guard Bureau and one for former Prisoners of War and those still Missing in Action. Spc. Cyree Bethea, Recruiting and Retention Battalion (RRB), D.C. National Guard, escorted Nancy Fassbender, Vietnam veteran and author, to present the wreath for the National Guard.
