On April 2, 2024, at the Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA, Col. Yolonda “YR" Summons was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Summons thanked the many family members, friends, mentors, and associates for their assistance and support on her career journey. Brig. Gen. Summons was the first female African American Army Medical Evacuation Pilot and the first female to command the SHAPE Healthcare Facility in Europe. Summons is currently dual hatted as Director for Policy and Force Integration, Office of the Surgeon General, and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Army Medical Command. “I am humbled and grateful to all who have supported my journey. I will lead with empathy, integrity, and dedication to our Soldiers and our Nation,” said Summons. “It is a profound honor to serve this nation and this Army.”
