U.S. Army Corps of Engineers volunteers supporting the wildfire recovery efforts in West Maui County, Hawai‘i, discuss ongoing efforts during a public meeting in Lahaina April 3.
To date, USACE has had nearly 1,000 employees volunteer from across the nation to support the people of Maui in their recovery efforts following wildfires Aug. 8, 2023. There are currently more than 100 people in Maui actively support the recovery with more than 40 people across the nation supporting in a remote capacity.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently working with the Federal Emergency Management, Environmental Protection Agency, Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and the County of Maui to support debris removal and temporary housing efforts. Additional efforts already completed include the installation of the temporary King Kamehameha III Elementary School and temporary power immediately following the fires.
