    U.S. Army Sgt. Smart Asare, a licensed practical nurse (68C), assigned to the 240th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment, 44th Medical Brigade, works with his Burundian counterparts from the Burundi National Defence Force, to stabilize a severely ill patient during the Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) in Bujumbura, Burundi on April 11, 2024. MEDREX is a medical readiness exercise program, planned and executed by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), that allows military health professionals from the U.S. and their African partners to exchange medical practices, procedures and techniques that build and strengthen treatment capabilities, resulting in lasting relationships between the partners.
