Candidates in the Michigan Army National Guard Officer Candidate School, Class 067, receive lessons in leadership from U.S. Marine Corps Col. (Ret.) Robert Abbott during a staff ride to the Gettysburg National Battlefield Park on March 28, 2024.
The candidates gained leadership lessons and perspectives during the day-long tour covering battlefields such as McPherson (Herbst) Ridge, Oak Hill, the Mississippi Monument, the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield, Culps Hill, and The Angle. The military staff ride afforded the future officers a view through the lens of battle-tested officers in the year 1863, and gained invaluable insights into leadership, strategy, and the timeless lessons of warfare.
