Naval Hospital Jacksonville Diversity Committee member Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Courtney Milam gathers trash. Milam and other volunteers hosted a hospital clean-up event today for Earth Day. The group cleaned up the grounds around the hospital building. Earth Day was founded in 1970, in a broad movement to protect the planet. On April 20, 1970, 20 million Americans, which was 10 percent of the U.S. population at the time, evoked college campuses and hundreds of cities to protest environmental ignorance and demanded a new way forward. This movement is known for launching the modern environmental movement. This day marks the continuously growing need for environmental care through education and action.
