The Best Ranger Competition was named in honor of Lt. Gen. David E. Grange Jr., former Ranger instructor and Ranger department director, and who, at one time, commanded Fort Benning — now Fort Moore — Ga., the 2nd Infantry Division, and the U.S. Sixth Army. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the competition and is a tribute to the rangers past and present who have helped shape our Army into the premiere fighting force it is today.
