Doornink, a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity, volunteers his time as a Boy Scout leader in Frederick, Md. After earning the rank of Eagle Scout during his youth, Doornink joined the Army ROTC program at Missouri Western State University before commissioning as a second lieutenant in the Army’s Medical Service Corps in 2004.
