Newkirk was selected as the 2nd MLG Warrior of the Week for his efforts during the 2nd Medical Battalion Certification Exercise. Newkirk led 20 Sailors in setting up six 305 tents for Medical Role II certification and assisted CLB 451 with the setup of their 305-hygiene utility tent, decreasing Role II establishment time by 15 percent. When asked what his favorite part of his job was, Newkirk said “It’s teaching the people who haven’t been out to the field, not to survive but to thrive and enjoy being in the field.” Each week, 2nd MLG recognizes one outstanding Marine or Sailor that goes above and beyond in their duties and embodies the qualities of an outstanding service member.
