Spc. Marck Rangel-Garcia of the California Army National Guard tosses a weighted medicine ball back-and-forth over a pull-up bar as part of a physical assessment challenge. The California National Guard welcomed competitors from seven states and territories as the host of the 2024 Region VII Best Warrior Competition May 5-10, 2024 at Camp San Luis Obispo. Guard members from across the region have earned the right to compete regionally after winning their state's or territory's Soldier or Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Award. The regional level showcases the adaptiveness, resilience, and lethality of our forces, affirming the readiness of National Guard citizen-Soldiers to meet the nations’ challenges. The winners will advance to the Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition this summer. These service members come from Guam, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and California.
