U.S. Army Capt. Chelsea Payne, veterinarian and officer in charge of the Fort Belvoir Center, supervises a surgical procedure on Charlie, an 8-month-old goldendoodle, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, May 8, 2024. The surgery was part of the Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Belvoir’s annual training exercise. Payne said one of the exercise goals was to pull in staff from various sites to see how they would work in a stressful environment.
