240509-N-MY408-1335 (May 9, 2024) TAKORADI, Ghana – Sierra Leone Navy Leading Seaman Mohamed Kalokoh poses for a photo at Ghana Western Naval Headquarters during Obangame Express 2024. Kalokoh serves as part of Sierra Leone Navy’s radar monitoring unit, but says he needs to have knowledge of the maritime interdiction skills taught at Obangame Express 2024 to carry out the overall mission of the Sierra Leone Navy.
“It’s very necessary for me to know these drills because not all the time will I be in the radar department,” said Kalokoh. “I could be launched to sea, so there is need for me, if there is any casualty, to act as first aid.”
During Exercise Obangame Express 2024, the 13th rendition of the exercise, partner and allied forces collaborate to enhance collective maritime law enforcement capabilities, bolster national and regional security in West Africa, and foster greater interoperability among U.S., African, and multinational partners.
