Navy and Marine Corps Force Health Protection Command (NMCFHPC) Director of Population Health Lt. Cmdr. Erica Monsees, and NMCFHPC Deputy Commander, Capt. Robert Wilhite cut the cake in honor of the U.S Navy Nurse Corps 116th birthday.
The Navy Nurse Corps was established May 13, 1908, by President Theodore Roosevelt, originally known as “The Sacred Twenty,” and today provides medical care to service members, military families, and others around the world.
According to Rear Adm. Robert J. Hawkins, U.S. Navy Nurse Corps chief, today’s Navy Nurse Corps is comprised of more than 3,500 active duty and reserve nurses who provide care or support patient care in more than 20 specialties. Monsees is one of 20 Public Health Nurses across the entire Navy. (Navy photo by Jennifer Goulart)
