An odaiko drummer with Firebird Drummers Eisa Group performs during an Eisa event on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, May 12, 2024. Originating from Okinawa, Eisa started as a traditional dance performed by Japanese Buddhist monks to honor the spirits of their ancestors. Hosted to honor Mother’s Day, the event featured performances Eisa groups such as Chatan Rengo, U.S. Forces, Firebird Drummers, Eguchi Seinenkai and Jaagaru Seinenkai, and was open to all Status of Forces Agreement members and Japanese locals.
