Diane Franzese, a board member with Honor Flight Arizona, looks at artifacts in the Blue and Gray Hall during their visit to the Maryland Museum of Military History at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Baltimore, on May 10, 2024. “[My decision to work with Honor Flight Arizona started] here in Baltimore," said Franzese. “I had been working here for about five years and go home every few months. So I was sitting at the airport waiting to go home, and a guy came up with a bunch of flags and said, ‘There are World War Two veterans coming off of this flight, would you mind shaking their hands?’ “My grandfather was in World War One and World War Two. My father was in World War Two. My brother was in Korea. My other brother was in Vietnam. My husband was Air Force and he was in Germany translating code. And so it's in my blood. And so I shook their hand.” HFA, a volunteer-based organization, dedicates itself to transporting as many United States military veterans as possible to see the memorials of the respective wars they fought in Washington, at no cost to the veteran.
