Canadian Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Derek Macaulay, United Nations Command (UNC) deputy commander, is poses in front of a historical U.N. flag during a visit to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) headquarters at Joint Base Pearl-Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, May 17, 2024. This U.N. flag was used in 1990 to drape the first U.S. missing personnel unilaterally repatriated from North Korea since Operation Glory in 1954. The repatriation was conducted on such short notice that no U.N. flags of sufficient size were available; therefore, this U.N. flag is a cotton bed sheet dyed with the U.N. design. Since then, the UNC and the Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance have conducted several repatriation ceremonies throughout the years.
