YOKOSUKA, Japan (May 20, 2024) - Dr. Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth and Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree, reads from her book "Juneteenth: A Children's Story" to students from Yokosuka Middle School May 20, 2024 at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka during a school assembly. Lee, a retired teacher, campaigned for several decades to make Juneteenth a federal holiday to celebrate all Americans' freedom.
