U.S. Soldiers assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command (59th ATC), South Carolina Army National Guard, perform medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), training sortie aboard a UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter, Clarks Hill, South Carolina, May 18, 2024. The MEDEVAC was part of Operation Palmetto Fury 2024 (OPF24), a 2-day, joint-training exercise involving over 1,000 National Guardsmen and other supporting units. UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command (59th ATC), South Carolina Army National Guard, provided airlift and air mobility support during all phases of the event. Palmetto Fury is a multi-domain, large-scale operations (LSCO), training exercise, designed to enhance the readiness, capabilities, and interoperability of all major commands of the South Carolina National Guard and some specialized units from other military branches of the U.S. military. Specifically, during OPF24, the 14th Airlift Squadron, 437th Airlift Wing, U.S. Air Force, and the 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Marine Forces Reserve, U.S. Marine Corps, contributed to the exercise with additional refueling/airlift support and close air support (CAS) coordination, respectively. OPF24 involved air, water, and land operations, with the participation of helicopters, fix-wing aircraft, infantry units, a variety of land vehicles, support equipment, air defense batteries, and other technical-support assets.
