The annual memorial ceremony is held in honor of the 37 Sailors who lost their lives and the 21 others wounded aboard the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Stark (FFG 31) when it was struck by two Iraqi Exocet missiles while operating in the Persian Gulf on May 17, 1987.
