Robert Fisher, environmental restoration product line manager at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast, discusses the Environmental Directorate's mission to Harrison Green and Carter Gonzalez, participants of the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program, during an orientation session on May 22. Engaged in a two-day immersion, they interacted with senior engineers, project managers, and command personnel, gaining invaluable insights into NAVFAC Southeast's pivotal role in supporting national defense. Green, pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Environmental Engineering, and Engineering and Public Policy, anticipates graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in spring 2025. Carter is pursuing a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, set to graduate from Colorado School of Mines in spring 2026. (U.S. Navy photo by Yan Kennon/released).
