HALAWA, Hawaii (May 22, 2024) A Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) contractor analyzes the characteristics of a soil core sample during installation of a groundwater monitoring well at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Halawa, Hawaii, May 20, 2024. The project is part of a larger emergency response plan to install monitoring wells that has been ongoing since December 2021. Charged with the safe decommissioning of the RHBFSF, NCTF-RH was established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment. The Navy continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as NCTF-RH works to safely and deliberately decommission the RHBFSF.
