Chris Walk, a technical adviser with Humanitarian De-mining Research and Development (HDR&D), describes the process of creating a solid binary explosive during a demolition range at Ta Mor Roi Range, Surin Province, Kingdom of Thailand, May 15, 2024. Explosive ordnance disposal Marines with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, and 3rd Littoral Logistics Battalion, 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, and HDR&D, worked with Thailand Mine Action Center, the de-mining component of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, in the research and development of new concepts to render safe and destroy explosive remnants of war utilizing 3D printed containers and binary explosives. This partnership is aligned with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Mine Action Program, which assists partnered nations affected by landmines, explosive remnants of war, and the hazardous effects of unexploded ordnance.
