Wielding oxyacetylene torches and the brute force of the Chesapeake 1000, Unified Command crews completed final cuts to lift then transport a 940,000-pound segment of Francis Scott Key Bridge to Sparrows Point, Maryland June 1. Impaled deeply in mud from the initial bridge collapse, “Section 4B” was part of the 10-million-pound steel truss which had pinned the M/V Dali for nearly seven weeks.

Unified Command cleared the federal channel May 20 to an operational width of 400 feet and depth of 50 feet. This allows for the unrestricted transit of all pre-collapse, deep-draft commercial vessels transit of the Port of Baltimore. Unified Command continues to clear wreckage from the bottom of the Patapsco River, projecting to fully restore the Fort McHenry Federal Channel to its original 700-foot width and 50-foot depth by June 8-10.
