The medics of an infantry regiment were assigned to the medical detachment of the regimental headquarters and further assigned to one of the three battalion aid stations of the regiment. From the battalion aid station, aidmen were assigned down to the rifle companies. The medical battalion directly supported divisional maneuver elements with its three organic collecting companies. Each company supported a specific combat team (regiment) collecting casualties from the unit aid stations and transferring patients to the divisional clearing station, thus “clearing” them from the Division Area.
