Petty Officer 1st Class Kaitlin Cable, diesel engineer, left, explains the process of repairing equipment to Vice Adm. Blake Conserve, deputy commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, during Salvage Exercise 24-001, aboard the decommissioned amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA-1), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, May 23, 2024. During the two-week SALVEX 24-001, approximately 250 Sailors, civilians and contractors collaborated in a variety of scenarios where simulated battle damage was evaluated, and personnel developed repair solutions using emerging technologies to accelerate repairs and shorten repair timeline. The use of public-private partnership between the Navy and industry highlighted technologies, equipment, and products ready to transition into ship maintenance.
