DC-3A "Spirit of Douglas" flies along the Hudson Valley, New York, May 17, 2024. "Spirit of Douglas" served in the United States Army Air Forces, or USAAF, under the Caribbean Wing of the Air Transport Command before being transferred to the British Royal Air Force on Sept. 10, 1942. About three and a half months later, the aircraft was transferred back to USAAF service on Dec. 26, 1942, where it remained in service until the end of World War II. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
