NORFOLK, Va. (June 14, 2024) Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) Sailors participate in a passing of the flag ceremony as part of a change of command ceremony onboard the ship, June 14. During the ceremony, Capt. Paul Burkhart, who retired during the ceremony after more than 39 years of service, was relieved by Capt. Trace Head, who became the ship’s 20th commanding officer since the ship was commissioned on Sept. 20, 1997.
