Greg Stratton, left, a scientific recovery expert with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), briefs Fern Sumpter Winbush, DPAA principal deputy director, during a visit of an underwater recovery team in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, May 18, 2024. DPAA leadership visited the team to learn more about its operation. U.S. Navy explosive ordinance disposal technicians, U.S. Army Pacific engineer divers and local workers set up a support barge and performed dives during the recovery operation. The joint multinational team's mission, spanning about 60 days, is to search for evidence of missing personnel from the Vietnam War in challenging locations such as deep underwater dives. There are approximately 1,576 missing personnel from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Tyrae Straw) (This photo was edited using blur techniques for operational security purposes)
