U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 27th Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Wing, perform maintenance checks on one of their F-22 Raptors amid joint refueling operations with the U.S. Army in support of Valiant Shield 24 at the Tinian International Airport, Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands, June 11, 2024. U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 524th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 25th Division Sustainment Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, and U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers with 371st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 304th Sustainment Brigade, 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), refueled the jets and conditioned jet fuel procured from the 8th Theater Sustainment Command in support of the refueling operations. Typically, the Air Force refuels its aircraft, but these operations are intended to solidify joint refueling processes, expanding aviation reach and capabilities across the dispersed Indo-Pacific theater. Exercises such as Valiant Shield allow the Indo-Pacific Command Joint Forces the opportunity to integrate forces from all branches of service and with our allies to conduct precise, lethal, and overwhelming multi-axis, multi-domain effects that demonstrate the strength and versatility of the Joint Force and our commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
