Stacey Reese, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District public affairs specialist, walks up a stairway at the 17th St. Canal Pump Station in New Orleans during a tour, June 6, 2024. The 17th St. Canal is the largest and most important drainage canal in New Orleans. Reese and other USACE Southwestern Division public affairs professionals toured Pump Station 6 with guides from the USACE New Orleans District public affairs office to gain a better understanding of the unique challenges local elevation presents for engineers. The pump station pumps water out of the below sea-level New Orleans basin and into Lake Ponchartrain. U.S. Army photo by Luke Waack.
