The historic National Guard armory in Columbia’s Olympia neighborhood began a year-long restoration project in June 2024. The armory, built in the mid-1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, has a storied history and is getting new life thanks funding from the State of South Carolina. The Garvin Design Group, a Columbia-based architecture firm specializing in restoration of historic structures, is spearheading the project, once complete the armory will house units from the South Carolina State Guard.
