Korean War veteran Earl Robert “Sonny” Meyer, 92, is awarded the Purple Heart at the chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, Minnesota, May 15,2024. Among those joining Meyer on stage at the chapel for his award presentation was U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and Army Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Rost, the Army senior enlisted advisor for the Minnesota National Guard. Meyer’s award came nearly 73 years after his service, as it was presumed that the medic who treated Meyer for his injuries died on the battlefield prior to putting him in for the award.
