Major General Laurent Michon of the French Army expresses his gratitude and highlights the value of his relationship with Maj. Gen. Todd R. Wasmund, commanding general U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, and the importance the civilian leadership of Mayor Charles De Vallavielle, mayor of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, during an award ceremony where Michon was presented the Legion of Merit, June 7, 2024, at Utah Beach in Normandy, France. The Legion of Merit is a U.S. military award that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. Commemorative events and ceremonies such as these serve to honor the sacrifices U.S. service members made 80 years ago in securing peace and security, and inspiring future generations to value a collective vision of global peace.
