During the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Proclamation Signing held at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, June 18, 2024, an audience listens as Erica Woodford, Bibb County Superior Court clerk, tells the story of how in 2013, she discovered records of slave transactions in old Bibb County deed books while conducting a routine inventory. In all, there were 17 volumes containing 6,000 pages of hand-written records found, of which approximately one-third have been fully digitized, indexed, and made available by the Bibb County Superior Court Clerk’s Office.
