Matthew Powell departs a change-of-command ceremony for the future USS Iowa (SSN 797) at Fort Trumbull in New London, Connecticut, June 21, 2024. Powell was relieved by Cmdr. Gregory Coy during the ceremony. The pre-commissioning unit (PCU) Iowa and crew operate under Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 4, whose primary mission is to provide fast-attack submarines that are ready, willing, and able to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
