President Harry S. Truman stands on the bay of the Arnold Air Force Base warehouse, the first building constructed on the Tennessee-based installation, delivering his dedication of Arnold Engineering Development Center, June 25, 1951. Truman spoke of AEDC scientists studying what lied on the other side of the speed of sound. He also stated that the effort put forth by those who supported the mission at AEDC would make the United States “the best air power in the world and keep it the best in the world.” (U.S. Air Force photo)
