SAN ANTONIO – (June 24, 2024) – Dr. Luis Martinez, a research microbiologist assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Biomaterials Department, served as session chair for several San Antonio Military Health and Universities Research Forum (SURF) presentations focusing on infectious diseases during the inaugural AIM Health R&D Summit held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Designed to promote cross-sector collaboration in the development of life-saving battlefield technologies, the summit combines three of San Antonio's leading life sciences events: Military Medical Industry Day (MMID), BexarBio pitch competition, and SURF. NAMRU San Antonio’s mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. It is one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy under the DoD and is one of eight subordinate research commands in the global network of laboratories operating under the Naval Medical Research Command in Silver Spring, Md.
